The socks went to London to see the Queen...

...the Queen of Knit Blogging that is. Yes that is her, I promise. She's wearing her Manon. Seems like these socks are going to be the best travelled socks before they even make it to the foot. They very much enjoyed being in the huge hall with soooo many other knitters listening to the Yarn Harlot.

It's really no surprise is it that I Knit Day was fab: beautiful venue, lovely stalls, knitting fashion shows and of course a very entertaining talk to knit to. I totally failed to see any other bloggers, I think the yarn fumes may have made my vision a little blurry :o) I did however get a good eye in for knit identifying. I felt like I needed a score card and a pattern spotting book like a pro twitcher - Is that a Swallowtail? Ooh there's a Hey Teach. Oh look a Clapotis. So much fun to see all that real live hand knitting being worn!

I was well behaved on the yarn purchasing and only a skein of Malabrigo sock made it home with me after I squeezed my way to the front of the Socktopus booth which seemed to be mobbed the whole time. Ooh this stuff is soft, soft, soft and a wonderful souvenir of a great day.

Wasn't the Socktopus stall mad? Was desperately looking for some Harmony DPN's but no luck!

YAY for you!! I'm so glad you made it to the Big Event! That Malabrigo is GORgeous, you know what I always say.. every woman should have a pair of RED socks! I hope you knit them for you :^)

Ahhh, good choice! I picked that same Malabrigo red, too. I'm glad you got to see the YH in person, she's a wonderful speaker and it's just as much fun to see the crowd of knitters, if not more so.

Yes I was caught in the scrum that was the Socktopus stall too! I got my malabrigo sock though so it was worth it. We will all need to be more organised about meeting up at next year's event won't we?

Glad you had a great time! I just seem to miss these things, out of pure distraction... baah. Great to get a photo of the YH, but I'm sliightly mesmerised by the bald pate in front of her (sorry, I know I'm bad...)!

The Malabrigo is a beautiful shade.

That sounds like the BEST day. If I ever went to something like that I would definitely have to leave my wallet at home. And the yarn harlot...she is like the godess of knitting!

At the end of January I had the pleasure of taking a learn to crochet course at The Makery in Bath taught by the very patient and adept Rosee Woodland .  Here is my first ever piece of crochet. Hard won over an hour or so. Rather tight and twisty. I thought it would be, as that aptly describes my first pieces of knitting. The focus and anxiety to get it right flow through my hands and translate into tightly wound stitches. I seem less patient with myself than I was when I learnt to knit as if somehow because I can do the one I should be able to do the other. I was no natural knitter but because it it flows now I think other crafts should feel the same. That belief certainly sabotaged my attempts to learn from a book which worked for me with knitting; with crochet I felt like I should be able to skip through that beginning section and get straight into the 'real' stuff and when I couldn't get it easily I didn't want to persevere. Elle est fini :o) My little beret has finally made it over the finishing line. The peloton have long since disbanded so I can't claim any colour jersey for this but I loved being part of the knitalong so I'm really just pleased I wasn't months behind. Christmas TIME

I've hit the December point known as - "if only there were more time" - I think it about a thousand times a day as I have yet another crazy idea of something to make/cook/do for Christmas. I like to think that if I could just abandon the job for December that I'd get it all done. I'd get more done for sure but it could never be 'all' as the inspiration out there ensures fresh supplies of schemes for wintery delights - like learning to crochet just to make snowflakes or building my own snow village or... well I'm sure you all get the idea and have a billion things bubbling over that you'll never quite get to. So it's prioritise like crazy, craft for sanity (and if it is as simple as wrapping some berries and mistletoe round a heart shaped wreath - jump for joy) and I try to remember that seeing the people I'm making the presents for is the most important thing of all! I don't think I'll be back here before I head down to the wilds...
