Yarn: Lana Grossa Meilenweit Cotton
Needles: 2.5mm Circular
Started: 6 February 2010
Finished: 20 March 2010

Love this knit - pattern and yarn combine in a winning combination. It's a genius design, simple and fun to knit. She's a clever lady and and I've got my eye on her Sweetheart pattern, which looks like a lovely variation on the theme. As for the yarn - this cotton/wool/acrylic sock yarn blend is a real favourite of mine - I made socks for Mama in it a long time ago and struggled to get more. This treasure of the stash was brought from lands afar for me and it could only be coaxed out for a special knit. It isn't widely available in the UK and these plain shades seem particularly rare - any tips on where to get it or similar alternatives gratefully received. It's worn really well in the socks and seemed like the perfect easy care and wear yarn for a baby dress.

The little thing I'm most proud is not the knitting but the touch of crochet used to tidy around the neck opening which is worked back and forth leaving a raw edge. I wanted to skip that stage as it didn't look too untidy and I am a leetle scared of crocheting but thought I should give it a go and try and get to grips with the hook. It was a simple and pleasing venture out into new territory to add a line of single crochet (although I made the button loops with a plait as I thought I should quit while I was ahead). Nice and neat. Love this FO.

it's so pretty! I made that for Alice in pink and it was such a worthwhile project. It's just lovely. Good on you for venturing into crochet - but did you seriously make little plaits for the loops? God that sounds fiddly - you should learn to make chains!!

It really is a beautiful little dress. Hopefully the 'little girl' it's been especially made for will make an appearance soon. You've picked a lovely colour too.

Have you tried Online Supersocke? They used to make a range of cotton blend yarns in 4ply (fingering) weight. Cascade Fixations used to make a cotton/elastin blend but it's 8ply (DK) weight.

Your little dress turned out beautifully, and I love how you plaited the button loops too! I agree with Bells though, you will have to learn to do a chain of crochet instead as it is very simple to do (and Im not even any good at crochet)! I am sure now you have finished her dress she will arrive.

As you are probably aware, I never get sick of that dress! Yours is so beautiful, and the cotton blend will make it wearable most of the year. My niece has been wearing hers for well over a year, because the fit is so flexible.

Well done with the crochet, that's about my level too. And I think the little plaits look fantastic.

It's such a great pattern that one, I love it in the plain colour and the fancy buttons! And yay you for crocheting!! (although like Bells I giggle a little at you plaiting the button loops - crochet chain is so much easier!! But the plaits are much prettier than chains, so it's totally a win for you!!)

That little dress you've knitted is just darling! I would be proud of that crochet edge, too. I avoid anything with the word crochet in it. I'm impressed!

Christmas TIME

I've hit the December point known as - "if only there were more time" - I think it about a thousand times a day as I have yet another crazy idea of something to make/cook/do for Christmas. I like to think that if I could just abandon the job for December that I'd get it all done. I'd get more done for sure but it could never be 'all' as the inspiration out there ensures fresh supplies of schemes for wintery delights - like learning to crochet just to make snowflakes or building my own snow village or... well I'm sure you all get the idea and have a billion things bubbling over that you'll never quite get to. So it's prioritise like crazy, craft for sanity (and if it is as simple as wrapping some berries and mistletoe round a heart shaped wreath - jump for joy) and I try to remember that seeing the people I'm making the presents for is the most important thing of all! I don't think I'll be back here before I head down to the wilds
