A Mishap in Matlock

Or "How a Knitter Saved the Day"

Yesterday morning ahead of my friend's wedding in Matlock, Derbyshire the aforementioned lovely boyf and I popped into town for a little essential business - ie I wanted to visit the LYS: Pins and Needles (see left.)

I browsed happily for a few moments in the pretty shop, received some helpful advice on the purchase of some cotton for one of these lovely bags and left buying just one ball of yarn. Merrily on our way, I've got the warm glow of having just been fondling yarn and no guilt from buying two tons of the stuff to go in the cupboard or under the bed or wherever it will fit. The sun is trying to shine, we're well ahead of schedule and thinking of a nice cup of tea and a little something to sustain us through the service and then... Disaster struck!

Hopping back into the car there was an ominous ripping sound from the direction of my one true beloved's backside. Ejected from the car I assessed him for damage. It was not a pretty picture. His trouser seam was split from top to bottom and rather more of his underpants were on display than may be thought ideal. We are one hour away from Here Comes the Bride echoing round the church - we stare at each other in panic, no spare trousers, do we try and find him a new suit? In this small market town?

I suggest the only thing I can think of - we go back to Pins and Needles and see if they know of anywhere that does repairs; if not I'm going to have to buy a needle and thread and do what I can to protect his modesty. With the size of this rip I am not hopeful of my success.

Well, of course, the proprietress came to our rescue in magnificent fashion. She whipped out a sewing machine, he whipped off his trousers and before I could emphasise how grateful I was for her assistance the seam is double stitched shut, the trousers are back on and we're sent on our way without being allowed to pay a penny for the best emergency repair service in the Peak District. Hurrah for knitters!

If anyone finds themselves near Matlock do pop in to Pins and Needles, it's near the RBS on Snitterton Road. They have a great range of Rowan and Sirdar yarns, fabrics, general haberdashery and are fabulous if you're a knitter's boyfriend in need!

Fantastic story, Sarah! Poor boyfriend - at least he wasn't going commando.

I will certainly look out for the shop in Matlock, as we visit there from time to time, and I haven't come across it before.
