Lazy Leaves

An aptly named pattern - I've been very lazy in the heat of the last week and so missed the end of June deadline - though good news for me is that they can count for the July catch up month. I was determined to finish them tonight so that I didn't add another mountain to my Tour de France challenge starting tomorrow.
Pattern: Lazy Leaves
Yarn: Patons Purple Heather - 1671, 4oz
Needles: 2.5mm DPNs
Started:6 June 2009
Finished: 3 July 2009

They were a little large for the sock blockers or stunt foot so a combination of both are employed to show the details. I'm a firm convert to Judy's Magic Cast-On after this and the sewn bind off definitely suits me. I need to try the afterthought heel before I conclude that my toe up sock recipe is perfected, the heel flap looks nice and wins for me over the short row heel but I don't think it's as much fun as a top down heel flap. Still I'm definitely more in favour of the toe up now, it feels a bit like learning to write with my left hand - I think I'll always favour the top down but it's nice to be sockily ambidextrous!

they are really nice aren't they? what is your tdf project? I think you might be right about making mine socks but I know I can do that and knitting a whole cardigan is a huge challenge for me. 5 cm done so far!

They look fabulous!

I agree about being sockly ambidextrous, it's very nice to use different techniques. I like the gusset/heel flap over short row heels too - but still prefer them top down too!

Those are beautiful socks...being a big sock knitter myself I truly appreciate a perfect sock. I have tried the top down and must say I am not a fan. Oh well. As you so perfectly put it: it is good to be ambidextrous.

I've hit the December point known as - "if only there were more time" - I think it about a thousand times a day as I have yet another crazy idea of something to make/cook/do for Christmas. I like to think that if I could just abandon the job for December that I'd get it all done. I'd get more done for sure but it could never be 'all' as the inspiration out there ensures fresh supplies of schemes for wintery delights - like learning to crochet just to make snowflakes or building my own snow village or... well I'm sure you all get the idea and have a billion things bubbling over that you'll never quite get to. The Keeping Cosy Winter Shawl

  Pattern: Springtime Bandit   Yarn: Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend, Colour: Atlantic Started: November 2010 Finished: January 16th 2011 Ravelry page I think photographing this shawl has been ten times the challenge that knitting it was! I've taken several shots over several days to try and capture the glory of this red yarn, I'm calling it a day now though I haven't quite got what I wanted as in these grey, dingy days I don't think I will. Happily I feel the absolute opposite about the actual garment, it's everything I dreamed it could be when I saw the inspiring version A Girl In Winter made in the Manos Silk Blend and this shade, evasive though it may be to the camera is so uplifting that it's been the perfect companion for dark, winter days. It's a warm, deep multi-toned red with a pinky blue base, a real treat for the eye. The shawl is big and grand, but cosy and homely all at once. A wonderful pairing of yarn and pattern.
